For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).
A righteousness which is without the Law; that’s the righteousness which is by the faith of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21,22). That righteousness has been credited to your account as a child of God. This had nothing to do with your actions: what you did, or didn’t do; it’s the grace of God! Ephesians 2:9 says, “Not of works, lest any man should boast.” It’s therefore pointless to try to impress God with your “works.”
Acts 13:39 tells us, “And by him (Jesus Christ) all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Meaning that if you believe in Jesus, you’ve been accounted righteous and declared not guilty: that which couldn’t be achieved by keeping the Law with its ordinances has now been perfected by the faith of Christ. Romans 4:24-25 says, “But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” This is a legal or formal declaration of innocence. Jesus was delivered to death for your offenses, and raised back to life for your acquittal; you’ve been formally declared not guilty. God is not charging you with any wrong, because to Him, you never sinned. How could this be?
The reason is that, being born again, you’re now a new man, with the life and nature of God, having no past. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” You have a new life in Christ; the resurrection life (Romans 6:4); you’ve been justified by faith, to reign and rule in life: “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).
